Go ahead and prove them wrong

Has it ever felt like the people closest to you are preventing you from following your dream? It is not that they don't want to see you succeed and be happy, it's quite the contrary. They don't want to see you fail and get hurt, therefore they persuade you to be more "realistic" in your dreams and endeavors. They might make you second guess your plans and therefore keep you from achieving what in your gut you know is a great idea.

What typically happens when you don't receive the support from your friends and family regarding an idea you are really excited about? Of course your defenses go up while you are trying to persuade them that you know what you are doing; you are trying to convince them, while deep down you are trying to convince yourself that moving forward is the right thing to do.

I know first hand from experiences in my own life, that I too have been confronted and persuaded to go against what I knew to be the right next step in my life. If I had not stuck with my own gut and guidance systemI would not be where I am today. I know from my past as well, that my intuition always guides me in the right direction. I discuss my ideas and plans with those I love, but the decision is ultimately mine to make. I know they are always looking out for my best interest, but typically it is fear based.

Sometimes you need to stand up for what you know is true. Pursue that business idea. Open a business you've always dreamed of. Show those in your life that you are fully capable of making decisions, that you are prepared to do what it takes to succeed.

ACTION STEPS FOR THE WEEK:

1. Lost ideas
What ideas have you had that you let disappear over the years? What were you excited about pursuing, but never gave yourself the chance to find out the outcome? Have you always dreamed of starting your own business? Have you always had a desire to go back to school? Write down all the ideas that you've had over the years.

2. Do your research
Before embarking on any major life change, do your research. Take classes. Volunteer at similar organizations. Read and study as much as possible. Talk with people that have similar jobs, asking them what the pros and cons of the job entail. Do your homework!

3. Take a step forward
Action leads to more action. Doing something is better than standing still, hoping things will improve on their own. Just do something, anything, to bring you closer to your dream. This week decide what step you feel comfortable taking. Good luck!
